One of the blog entries that got obliviated last week was simply a poem that I’d run across and appreciated. I’ve decided to put it up again because, if anything, it’s even more relevant now than when I first posted it a couple weeks ago. Alas.<\/p>\n
Pity the nation whose people are sheep
\nAnd whose shepherds mislead them
\nPity the nation whose leaders are liars
\nWhose sages are silenced
\nAnd whose bigots haunt the airwaves
\nPity the nation that raises not its voice
\nExcept\u00a0 to praise conquerers
\nAnd acclaim the bully as hero
\nAnd aims to rule the world
\nBy force and by torture
\nPity the nation that knows
\nNo other language but its own
\nAnd no other culture but its own
\nPity the nation whose breath is money
\nAnd sleeps the sleep of the too well fed
\nPity the nation oh pity the people
\nwho allow their rights to\u00a0 erode
\nand their freedoms to be washed away
\nMy country, tears of thee
\nSweet land of liberty!<\/em><\/p>\n
