Davis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As long as I&#8217;m talking about <a title=\"Peter Ellenshaw\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbennion.com\/2007\/02\/peter_ellenshaw\/\">painters whose craft I&#8217;ve admired<\/a> since childhood, I ought to put in a shout-out to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Don_Davis_%28artist%29\">Don Davis<\/a>. His imaginative renderings of what it would look like inside <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gerard_K._O%27Neill\">Gerard O&#8217;Neill<\/a>&#8216;s proposed <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/O'Neill_cylinder\">space colonies<\/a> &#8212; essentially giant cylinders that would spin to simulate gravity &#8212; seemed to be on every third magazine cover when I was an impressionable kid in the 1970s. Don&#8217;s got his own <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donaldedavis.com\/\">web site<\/a>, naturally enough, and it turns out that he&#8217;s offering a number of those <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donaldedavis.com\/PARTS\/allyours.html\">iconic images<\/a> up to the public domain, for folks to do with as they please. I remember <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donaldedavis.com\/BIGPUB\/STANTRUS.jpg\">this one<\/a> (or one very like it) in particular.
