{"id":591,"date":"2006-06-19T11:08:28","date_gmt":"2006-06-19T11:08:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasonbennion.com\/?p=591"},"modified":"2006-06-19T11:08:28","modified_gmt":"2006-06-19T11:08:28","slug":"superhero_for_a_day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jasonbennion.com\/index.php\/2006\/06\/19\/superhero_for_a_day\/","title":{"rendered":"Superhero for a Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Although tear-jerking, heart-warming tales of sick little kids are all over the Internet and I suspect at least half of them are probably bull, <a href=\"http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/r5z69\">this one<\/a> raised a genuine lump in this old curmudgeon&#8217;s throat: last Friday, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.idahowish.org\/\">Idaho chapter<\/a> of the Make-a-Wish Foundation organized virtually the entire city of Boise to fulfill a young cancer victim&#8217;s desire to become a superhero. Yes, a superhero, complete with a costume, a super-villain to pursue, and super-sidekicks to help out. The <strike>kid<\/strike> girl even got a phone call from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adamwest.com\/\">Adam West<\/a>, which is kind of silly when you think about it; a six-year-old wouldn&#8217;t remember Michael Keaton&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0096895\/\">Batman<\/a> &#8212; or even <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0112462\/\">Val Kilmer<\/a>&#8216;s or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0118688\/\">George Clooney<\/a>&#8216;s &#8212; let alone <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0060153\/\">West<\/a>&#8216;s. (West was no doubt cheaper than the other fellows.) Still, what a great gesture of community compassion.
