{"id":1360,"date":"2008-04-10T12:52:02","date_gmt":"2008-04-10T12:52:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasonbennion.com\/?p=1360"},"modified":"2008-04-10T12:52:02","modified_gmt":"2008-04-10T12:52:02","slug":"todays_best_descriptions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jasonbennion.com\/index.php\/2008\/04\/10\/todays_best_descriptions\/","title":{"rendered":"Today&#8217;s Best Descriptions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I fancy myself something of a clever wordsmith, at least on good days, I always admire a good turn of phrase, a line that perfectly describes the subject at hand or even &#8212; bonus! &#8212; makes me smile or laugh out loud.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve encountered two such items in today&#8217;s web surfing, which I&#8217;d like to share with you now.<\/p>\n<p>The first comes from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.badastronomy.com\/bablog\/2008\/04\/10\/laser-grb\/\">Phil Plait<\/a>, the Bad Astronomer, who, in talking about yesterday&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/space.newscientist.com\/article\/dn13634-powerful-laser-is-brightest-light-in-the-universe.html?feedId=online-news_rss20\">news<\/a> that scientists have successfully tested an immensely powerful petawatt laser, explains that:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;one petawatt is 1000 terawatts; peta is a prefix people will get to know in a year or two once terabyte drives prove too small to store very many illegally downloaded BluRay movies.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s a pretty good one, but the comparison that really earned a chuckle came from <a href=\"http:\/\/gadgets.boingboing.net\/2008\/04\/10\/dell-joins-asus-hp-i-1.html\">Boing Boing Gadgets<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[Item X] should cost more per ounce than heroin filtered through the limbic system of Tom Cruise.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Heroin filtered through Tom Cruise&#8217;s limbic system? How absurd! How perfect! What kind of twisted, beautiful mind comes up with something like that?
