{"id":1262,"date":"2008-01-21T13:30:58","date_gmt":"2008-01-21T13:30:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasonbennion.com\/?p=1262"},"modified":"2008-01-21T13:30:58","modified_gmt":"2008-01-21T13:30:58","slug":"the_toaster_still_walks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jasonbennion.com\/index.php\/2008\/01\/21\/the_toaster_still_walks\/","title":{"rendered":"The Toaster Still Walks!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Catching up on some of the news from over the weekend, I see that the mysterious &#8220;Poe Toaster&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/ap.google.com\/article\/ALeqM5jyo74mhvMgfw4JSX51A63Hp5WksQD8U915OO0\">made his annual visit<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edgar_Allan_Poe\">Edgar Allan<\/a>&#8216;s grave, leaving behind the customary tribute of roses and cognac for the author&#8217;s birthday. This pleases me; I was afraid the <a title=\"Another Mystery Solved\u2026 Maybe\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbennion.com\/2007\/09\/another_mystery_solved_maybe\/\">controversy last fall<\/a> over the Toaster&#8217;s identity might have disrupted or even ended the tradition for good, and that would have been a real shame. We <i>need<\/i> these strange rituals and half-legendary figures, I think. If we ever clear up all the mysteries, the world will be diminished for it.<\/p>\n<p>I was a little bummed to hear, however, that &#8220;the visitor no longer wears the wide-brimmed hat and scarf he donned in the past.&#8221; That&#8217;s too bad.
