Japanese TV is the greatest, a often baffling exercise in&#8230; well, silliness. Consider the following, which seems to be something like the old <i>Candid Camera<\/i> show here in the US. We&#8217;ve got a Spanish speed-walking champion out on the track doing his thing, and a group of phony samurai poised to see if they can get him to break his stride:<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"425\" height=\"355\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/-WFkCjQAltc&amp;rel=1&amp;border=0\" \/><embed width=\"425\" height=\"355\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/-WFkCjQAltc&amp;rel=1&amp;border=0\" wmode=\"transparent\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>I love the dramatic <i>Godzilla<\/i>\/anime-style music as the samurai chase this dude around the track, and the way the speed-walker actually thanks the TV show when he finds out what&#8217;s going on, as if he&#8217;s thrilled to have had a practical joke played on him. (He says, &#8220;Arigato,&#8221; which, thanks to the immortal song-writing capabilities of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mr._Roboto\">Dennis De Young<\/a>, we know means &#8220;thank you.&#8221;) And who would&#8217;ve guessed that the Japanese for &#8220;stand by&#8221; is&#8230; &#8220;stand by&#8221;?
